Guided Heritage Walk - 2/3 hours

The Perch at Naxal offers a Guided Heritage Walk and lunch at a local restaurant as a part of a special offer for
those staying more than 3 nights at The Perch at Naxal valid till December 2024. Heritage walk allows you to
explore the popular local temple, Hitti (ancient water spout), local market, pond, Local Park, and museum. This
walk will last for 2/3 hours followed by lunch.


NAG POKHARI
The walking sightseeing tour begins early morning at 8 am. Visit Nag Pokhari one of the important landmarks and heritage sites of Kathmandu valley belonging to the King of Naga (serpent) Naga plays an important role in the Hindu religion and culture. On the day of Nag panchami, a huge crowd of devotees gathers at this Nag pokhari and a fair is also held on the same day.

NANDIKESHWAR MAHADEV TEMPLE:
The ancient temple of Nandikeshwar Mahadev belonging to Lord Shiva, the supreme God in the Hindu religion is located in next to Naga Pokhara in Naxal, the temple has been recently restored and given new looks to Kathmandu. This temple is three-storied and is filled with intricately carved wooden artifacts. It was built in the year 1865 BS by Suvarna Prabha, the second wife of Shri Rana Bahadur Shah. There is an ancient beautifully stone-carved water spout next to the temple, during the ancient times, local people used to wash their clothes and bathe in such a communal water spout.

NAXAL BHAGWATI:
The Naxal Bhagwati Bahal Temple is situated approx. 15 minutes walking distance from The Perch at Naxal in
Kathmandu. The temple is dedicated to the female protector Goddess Durga. Naxal Bhagwati Temple is an important local pilgrimage destination for Hindus. The temple was founded back in 607 CE during the time of King Shankerdev who built this pagoda-style temple, he placed a replica of the brilliantly carved beautiful original statue which can be seen in Palanchowk Bhagwati. Idol is taken out for a procession to bless the public in different corners of the Naxal area during a 3-day long festival known as Khat Jatra. Hundreds of devotees visit this temple during the 10 days long festival in Dasain.

KAMAL POKHARI:
Kamal Pokhari, located approximately a 20-minute walk from The Perch at Naxal, is a landmark rich in history and cultural significance in Kathmandu. Though its precise origins are unclear, it is believed to have been constructed during the Licchavi era. Over the centuries, the pond has played a vital role in the lives of the city's residents. Throughout its history, Kamal Pokhari has been significant to various rulers and dynasties. During the reign of the Malla kings, it held particular importance and was a cherished site for the royal families, offering a serene environment for relaxation and reflection. Despite facing periods of neglect and deterioration, the historical and cultural value of Kamal Pokhari has prompted efforts to restore and preserve it. The ongoing restoration aims to revive its former glory and ensure its longevity for future generations.

NARAYAN HITI PALACE MUSEUM
Narayanhiti Palace, located a 20-minute walk east of The Perch at Naxal, was the main residence and workplace of the kings of the former Kingdom of Nepal. The present palace was constructed by King Mahendra in 1906. In 2001, Crown Prince Dipendra, the eldest son of the late King Birendra, allegedly massacred the royal family under mysterious circumstances. Following this tragedy and the subsequent rise of the communist Maoist movement, Nepal was declared a republic. Girija Prasad Koirala, the then Prime Minister, ordered the conversion of the palace into a museum.
